AICC

AICC is an older eLearning interoperability standard, created by the Aviation Industry Computer-Based Training Committee, that lets an LMS launch content hosted elsewhere and record results. It predates SCORM and is now rarely used for new content, but some legacy courses and content vendors still rely on it.

Why it matters

If you've inherited older courses, or license content from a vendor that hosts it on their own servers, you may still come across AICC packages.

How it works

The LMS launches the course with a URL and session details, and the content reports progress back to the LMS over HTTP. Because content can live on a different server, AICC was an early way to use remotely hosted courses.

Common pitfalls

Cross-domain and security settings that block results reaching the LMS. For new content, SCORM or xAPI is usually the better choice.
