LMS glossary

Content library

A content library is a ready-made collection of eLearning courses, usually from a third-party provider, covering common topics like compliance, leadership, software skills and soft skills. Organisations license the library and make its courses available in their LMS instead of building every course themselves.

Why it matters

Building courses takes time. A library covers common topics quickly, leaving your team to create the training that's specific to your organisation.

How it works in Litmos

Litmos offers off-the-shelf course content alongside the courses you create yourself, and courses from other providers can be added as SCORM packages.

Common pitfalls

Licensing thousands of courses that few people use. Check which library courses are actually assigned and completed before renewing.
