Microlearning

Microlearning is training delivered in short, focused pieces, usually a few minutes each, that cover one idea or skill. Examples include short videos, quick quizzes and single-topic lessons. It suits busy and mobile learners, and reinforcing knowledge over time, better than long courses do.

Why it matters

Short pieces fit into the working day and are easier to finish, revisit and update. They also make spaced reinforcement practical.

Where it fits

Microlearning works well for refreshers, product updates and just-in-time help. Complex skills still need longer, structured learning, often as a learning path of short modules.

Common pitfalls

Chopping a long course into pieces without redesigning it, and creating so many items that learners can't find what they need.
