LMS glossary

Learning path

A learning path is an ordered sequence of courses that together make up a programme, such as new-starter onboarding, a manager development track or an annual compliance bundle. Learners work through the courses in order, and the LMS tracks progress across the whole path as well as each course within it.

Why it matters

Most real programmes span several courses. Learning paths let you assign the whole programme in one go and see how far each person has got, rather than tracking a pile of separate courses.

How it works in Litmos

In Litmos, a learning path groups existing courses into a sequence, and you assign it to people or teams like a course. Progress on the path depends on completing the courses inside it.

Common pitfalls

Litmos customers often find learning path progress hard to report on, so it ends up rebuilt in Excel. A path's overall percentage also hides which course is the sticking point.
