Course assignment

Course assignment, also called enrolment, is the act of giving a learner access to a course and making it part of their required training, usually with a due date. Assignments can be made to individuals, to teams or groups, or automatically by rules based on attributes such as job title or department.

Why it matters

Assignments drive everything that follows: what learners see, what counts as overdue and what shows up in completion reports. Getting the right course to the right people is most of an LMS admin's job.

How it works in Litmos

Litmos admins can assign courses and learning paths to individual users or to teams, and set up auto-assign rules so new people get the right training.

Common pitfalls

Rules that miss people whose details don't quite match, one-off groups that aren't a team, and bulk assignments that email hundreds of learners by accident.
