Learning analytics

Learning analytics is the measurement and analysis of data about learners and training, such as completions, scores, time spent and activity, to understand what's working and improve it. It ranges from basic completion reports to finding the modules where people struggle and comparing results across teams.

Why it matters

Analytics turns a training record into decisions: which course to fix, which team needs support, and whether a programme is working.

Levels of analysis

Descriptive (what happened: completions, overdue), diagnostic (why: where people stop, which assessments they fail), and predictive (who's likely to fall behind).

Common pitfalls

Stopping at descriptive reports exported to spreadsheets. The useful answers are usually one level deeper: where and why people get stuck.
