Gamification

Gamification in eLearning uses game mechanics, such as points, badges, leaderboards and levels, to motivate learners and make training more engaging. Learners earn rewards for completing courses, scoring well or being active, and can see how they compare with colleagues.

Why it matters

Used well, gamification encourages voluntary learning and gives people a reason to come back.

How it works in Litmos

Litmos includes gamification features such as points, badges and leaderboards that admins can switch on.

Common pitfalls

Rewarding clicks instead of learning, and leaderboards that motivate the top few while discouraging everyone else. It rarely fixes mandatory training that people find irrelevant.
