Single sign-on (SSO)

Single sign-on (SSO) lets people sign in to many applications, including an LMS, with one corporate login managed by an identity provider such as Microsoft Entra ID, Okta or Google Workspace. It typically uses standards such as SAML or OpenID Connect, so the LMS never handles the user's password.

Why it matters

Fewer passwords means fewer forgotten logins and support tickets, and access ends automatically when someone's corporate account is disabled.

How it works

When a user opens the LMS, it redirects them to the identity provider. The provider confirms who they are and sends them back signed in. Some setups also create users in the LMS on first login.

Common pitfalls

Assuming SSO cleans up the LMS. Disabling a corporate account stops the login, but the user can still be active in the LMS and count towards your licences. Review inactive users anyway.
