Learning management system (LMS)
A learning management system (LMS) is software that organisations use to deliver, track and report on training. Admins upload courses, assign them to people and set due dates; learners take the training online; and the LMS records progress, scores and completions so managers can see who has done what.
Why it matters
An LMS is the system of record for training. When an auditor, a regulator or a customer asks who has completed a course, the answer comes from the LMS. It also saves admins from tracking training in spreadsheets and email.
How it works in Litmos
Litmos is a cloud LMS. Admins build courses from modules (videos, documents, SCORM packages, assessments and more), organise people into teams, and assign courses and learning paths to people or teams. Learners take training in the browser or the Litmos mobile app.
Common pitfalls
Choosing an LMS for the learner experience and only later discovering that day-to-day admin, like bulk changes, reporting and user clean-up, takes most of the effort. Plan for the admin work as well as the learning.
