Training matrix

A training matrix is a grid that shows which people or teams need which training and whether they've completed it. Rows are usually people or teams, columns are courses or certifications, and each cell shows a status or completion percentage, so gaps are visible at a glance.

Why it matters

A matrix answers the question auditors and managers ask most: who still needs what? It's often required evidence in regulated industries.

How it's built

Traditionally in a spreadsheet, maintained by hand from LMS exports. Better: generated from the LMS data so it's always current.

Common pitfalls

A spreadsheet matrix that's out of date the day after it's made, and one so large nobody can read it. Group by team and focus on required training.
